88 - The Overwhelming

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

 
1Has the story reached thee of the Overwhelming (Event)?
 
2Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated,
 
3Laboring (hard), weary,-
 
4The while they enter the Blazing Fire,-
 
5The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring,
 
6No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhariì
 
7Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.
 
8(Other) faces that Day will be joyful,
 
9Pleased with their striving,-
 
10In a Garden on high,
 
11Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity:
 
12Therein will be a bubbling spring:
 
13Therein will be couches, raised on high,
 
14Goblets placed (ready),
 
15And cushions set in rows,
 
16And rich carpets (all) spread out.
 
17Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?-
 
18And at the Sky, how it is raised high?-
 
19And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?-
 
20And at the Earth, how it is spread out?
 
21Therefore do thou remind, for thou art one to remind.
 
22Thou art not one to manage (their) affairs.
 
23But if any turn away and disbelieve,-
 
24Allah will chastise him with a mighty Chastisement,
 
25For to Us will be their return;
 
26Then it will be for Us to call them to account.
